'LIBERATED' - Ceres Gallery, Chelsea, New York City (Jan 2007)
This work was recently shown in a one person show in NYC titled “Liberated” from January 2 to 27, 2007.
The work is a visual interplay of popular icons and the ‘hijab' (the head scarf adorned by Muslim women), highlighting the role of individual practices in the shaping of a unique national identity. It reflects my belief in the self empowering identity of American Muslim women. The work includes an installation titled, 'The Beehive,' which is based on the personal involvement of more than a hundred Muslim women across America."
